Dawn Patrol Edition

Here at GB we’re big fans of waking up early and seizing the day. Especially if it’s for an early morning surf session. The waves can be a little tricky to plan around though. One day they could be perfect long board waves around 1-4 Ft. and other days they can be bigger, making it hard to work around. With the right group any size day is fun, even if it's just hanging out on the sand;)

For this month's blog post we planned to host a dawn patrol surf session with some of our favorite local surfer girls. We have such a great group of girls here in San Diego that we have worked with on projects like modeling, content + more! We wanted to get more involved and create a community where other surfer girls can bring friends, meet either other and surf!

We planned our first meet up and had about 12 girls attending. We were gonna head over to Pipes Beach in Encinitas, CA, surf + get breakfast. Little did we know the waves were much bigger than we anticipated so a lot of the girls ended up canceling.

I had two girls that were still super down to go out, so obviously we took a chance and said yes anyway. I met up with Allie Durnell + Kylie Wooten and we walked down to give it a try. They paddled out and tried to get past the break but it was definitely not on our side. After about 10 minutes of me taking photos of what I thought was them, Allie comes out of the water.

They had drifted so far I didn't even realize. They both paddled out for round two. Lots of duck dives and getting slammed by waves. On our way back to the stairs I got soaked by the waves and had water pouring out of my shoes. We still ended the session laughing and agreeing that today was just not our day. Take this as your friendly reminder from GB to take a risk, say yes anyway and go for it, even if you're scared. The day still ended up being fun + was a great start to the day!
